Acts 7:17-19 King James Version (KJV)

17 But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,

18 Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph.

19 The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.

Acts 7:17-19 Amplified Bible (AMP)

17 “But as the time [for the fulfillment] of the promise which God had made to Abraham was approaching, the [Hebrew] people increased and multiplied in Egypt, 18 until [the time when] there arose another king over egypt who did not know joseph [nor his history and the merit of his service to Egypt]. 19 He shrewdly exploited our race and mistreated our fathers, forcing them to expose their [male] babies so that they would die.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

17 God had promised to Abraham that his later generations would be forced to slaves in a land that was not theirs before they could take the Promised Land, this we know is their time in Egypt, this was not reviled to Abraham. They grew in Egypt and became very large group of people.

18 This king did not know Joseph this meant that the Egyptians no longer cared to share the stories about what Joseph did, this meant they were no longer thankful and saw these people in their land that was not them, foreigners.

19 They were foreigners in their land, it is common to have them as forced labors or slaves. The Pharaoh allowed them to mistreat God's people, this was all apart of God's plan. The numbers of Israelites became so great that they were going to have all the male babies killed, the plan would be for the Egyptians to marry the females to have allies, two problems with that the little one was they were trying to have allies with those that they were harsh with and that these people were the Lord's, not Egypt's.
