Ezra 5:3-5 King James Version (KJV)
3 At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?
4 Then said we unto them after this manner, What are the names of the men that make this building?
5 But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.

Ezra 5:3-5 Amplified Bible (AMP)

3 At that time Tattenai, the governor of the province on the west side of the [Euphrates] River, and Shethar-bozenai and their colleagues came to them and said, “Who issued you a decree and authorized you to rebuild this temple and to restore this wall (shrine)?” 4 Then, accordingly, we told them the names of the men who were reconstructing this building. 5 But the eye of their God was on the elders of the Jews, so they [Tattenai and the others] did not stop them until a report could come before Darius, and then an answer was returned by letter concerning it.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

3 This is the Euphrates River. This did not want them to build so if it was not somebody of authority allowing them to do this they were going to stop them.

4 We do not know whether they answered either question but the one who gave them authority was the king. Those wanting the men’s names mean that they had no good attentions.

5 God kept them safe. They did not wait to do the work but went after they had the king’s permission. They could have waited or stopped working until this letter came but they did not. Often times we let things like this stop us from serving but we are to trust Him to take care of things.
