Ezra 5:9-10 King James Version (KJV)
9 Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?
10 We asked their names also, to certify thee, that we might write the names of the men that were the chief of them.

Ezra 5:9-10 Amplified Bible (AMP)

9 Then we asked those elders, ‘Who issued you a decree to rebuild this temple and to finish this structure?’ 10 We also asked them their names so that we might notify you, and so that we might record the names of the men in charge.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

9 They may have been some causing trouble as we see that happens later but some of them may have been asking because they were wanting it to built, either way the were smart enough not to stop them because of who might be allowing him to rebuild, it was the king but more importantly the Lord opened to door for him to do this so for to stop him would not only be a form of treason but an act against God.

10 Ezra took down there names he knew that they could be help or trouble either way knowing who they are would be helpful. Ezra is going to make an effort to use the leaders of the city rather then jut do things on his own, we as Christians can look and should look for help from other believers, we are not called alone, we have a new family in Him to serve with.
