There is a whole lot about mental attitude in the Bible, which suggests to me it's very important to God. Solomon said you are what you think. Jonah, Elijah, Moses, Noah, Peter, Mary, Jesus all had to overcome at least one clear crisis between fear and faith before their ministries were fulfilled. Jesus often teased His disciples about their faithless attitudes. Paul told us in order to know god's perfect will, we had to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. He told us, in order to have peace, we had to focus our thoughts on the good and pure and admirable.
Our minds are both a physical and spiritual reality, the seat of the soul, if you will, where body and spirit are connected. To be transformed requires mental discipline. Thoughts are not accidents, they are purposeful actions. This is why Jesus said anger could make you subject to judgment and thoughts of sex could make you guilty of adultery. We are responsible for what we think, and unless we take control of our thoughts and renew our minds, we will be controlled by our thoughts. This is why it's pretty simple for Paul to say our minds need renewing before we can know God's will. Otherwise, the anxieties, lusts and fears will be constantly confusing us and leading us astray of His will. Thought by thought, we can gain control of our minds until one day we can finally be free of lust, free of fear, filed with the peace of Christ, knowing and following the will of God.
