Romans 12:2 tells us, instead of conforming to the World, we will be transformed by the renewing of our minds, and that this is the way to know the will of God.
Many of us are perfectly willing to have God miraculously save us and intervene in our lives, but when it comes to something we are to do, well...that's where we draw the line. Salvation is the beginning, not the end of the the Christian life. He washes our past away and enables us to live in Him from then on...but there is a battle being waged daily between our flesh and our spirit. We must take action in our minds to favor one side or the other. All of us lose this battle from time to time. Jesus enables us to live a holy life, but He doesn't force it. As we work to renew our minds, it gets easier and easier to resist the defeating, discouraging, tempting and angry thoughts from the devil, and to live in the lovely and pure thoughts of God (Php 4:8). It's in these admirable and praiseworthy thoughts that a renewed mind dwells, that the peace of Christ is acquired and the will of God is found. There is no more pleasant work than the work of renewing your mind by dwelling on all that's good in God's kingdom.
