Acts 4:1-4 King James Version (KJV)
4 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,
2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.
4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.

Acts 4:1-4
NHEB 1 As they spoke to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came to them, 2 being upset because they taught the people and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3 They laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was now evening. 4 But many of those who heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

1 The priests were always protecting their way by this point no longer protecting God’s way, which is Christ, the priest were some of them that wanted Christ dead as well as the Sadducees and Pharisees.

2 Sadducees did not believe in life after death and did not accept that Jesus defeated death at the resurrection. The priests would have a problem with this because they no longer would be given sacrifices because Jesus was the one true sacrifice.

3 Trials did not take place at night according to Jewish law, they broke this law when they arrested Jesus and then had trial both at night. Today people may have to be arrested for Christ as they were. We should be willing to be arrested or even die in the name of Jesus.

4 Even thought they were arrested God used them to win people which would have been the opposite of what the people wanted. Their actions helped grow the faith, God used both the negative which was the being arrested and them preaching which was the positive to bring more people to Christ; it would be something that the Jewish authorities could stop. Christianity would be later that even Rome as strong it was could not stop it. Rome went away, but we still serve the name of Jesus today, there is no temple no more but the church remains.
