Acts 4:13-22 King James Version (KJV)
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,
16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.
17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.
18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.
22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.

Acts 4:13-22 Amplified Bible (AMP)

13 Now when they saw the boldness and unfettered eloquence of Peter and John and perceived that they were unlearned and untrained in the schools [common men with no educational advantages], they marveled; and they recognized that they had been with Jesus.
14 And since they saw the man who had been cured standing there beside them, they could not contradict the fact or say anything in opposition.
15 But having ordered [the prisoners] to go aside out of the council [chamber], they conferred (debated) among themselves,
16 Saying, What are we to do with these men? For that an extraordinary miracle has been performed by (through) them is plain to all the residents of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.
17 But in order that it may not spread further among the people and the nation, let us warn and forbid them with a stern threat to speak any more to anyone in this name [or about this Person].
18 [So] they summoned them and imperatively instructed them not to converse in any way or teach at all in or about the name of Jesus.
19 But Peter and John replied to them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you and obey you rather than God, you must decide (judge).
20 But we [ourselves] cannot help telling what we have seen and heard.
21 Then when [the rulers and council members] had further threatened them, they let them go, not seeing how they could secure a conviction against them because of the people; for everybody was praising and glorifying God for what had occurred.
22 For the man on whom this sign (miracle) of healing was performed was more than forty years old.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

13 John and Peter were both trained, trained to fish on a boat but not for anything else with the exception of what the Lord had trained them to do. People should be able to tell from hearing us that we have met Jesus.

14 The man was healed, this was something that was good and because of that they could not attack what happened.

15 This was a common way to do things, they were deciding about them, juries meet in private and churches often times when voting about someone ask them to leave, this is so that the peoples vote is kept private from the person.

16 The people knew there was power, people can not deny God’s power than can reject it but can not reject what His power does for instance they can not deny creation but do deny Him being the creator, these men could deny that they healed by the power of Jesus name but not deny that this man was healed.

17 The name of Jesus power it is the only name people have tried to stop having spread, it is by His name we become saved. The name of Jesus will always be praised.

18 This is something if it happens today we need to listen to God not to the orders of men, they would not listen to this but do what God had called them even if it caused them to be killed.

19 The men told them they were going to obey the commands of the Lord which was to preach the gospel, these men were telling them to stop, and no one should be able to stop the gospel.

20 They had a first hand knowledge of what Christ had done, we do as well it is called our testimony and we should share it with others.

21-22 They could not punish them because of the people; the people had come to Christ because of them being used by Him. It would have been clear that it was not a fake that the man was healed but that he was healed by the power of Jesus.
