All of our forums are opportunities for Christians to support and encourage each other. I have to say most of the comments are very helpful and encouraging. A few over the past year have unintentionally ventured into other areas. One of the reasons God led me out of the traditional church was because of the propensity for Christians to judge, condemn, criticize, and preach at other Christians, rather than spending the same efforts on their own weaknesses. I've noticed this causes great pain and strife among people who should be living in love and mutual support. When we set up these fellowship and prayer forums, we decided it would not be a place for those behaviors, since so many churches already allow people to give full vent to these bad habits. Here are some examples of encouragement that isn't, so you'll have an idea what I'm talking about. Criticism or judgment of the one seeking advice or prayer for a difficult life issue, even if their own behavior is the likely cause. We believe the Holy Spirit capable of informing them of their own behavior. It would be OK and encouraging for us to suggest different behavior in a non-judgmental way. Preaching or Bible-thumping to judge or criticize the person seeking help. If someone is asking for help to stop a sexual addiction, they don't need to see the Scriptures on fornication to help them, nor do they need anyone to tell them how disobedient they are being. They already know it's wrong...that's why they're here. If we want to encourage them, we'll treat their sin just as we would like others to treat ours, with the love and forgiveness of Christ. Arguing or debating Christian doctrines or practices, rather than polite discussion. It's possible to disagree without being insulting. Sometimes we forget that, though the person we're answering is fine with our answer, our post is there permanently, and may offend someone just surfing by. Since we're trying to be an Online community of love, let's help each other be encouraging by recommending changes and suggestions of more diplomatic ways to say things. Please help me in this way, as well.
