I pray and I pray and I beg for God to help me quit smoking. I know I cannot do it myself and I am ready and willing to accept his stregnth....but I am not recieving it. I am so discouraged and feel my request is being rejected. What do I do?

Dont be discouraged. Ask God for more strength.

It might help you stop smoking if you will do the following..
1. Commit to God that you will not smoke again.
2. Dont get near the place where there is cigarettes.
3. Dont buy cigarettes. Avoid looking at cigarettes.
4. Trash all your ashtray and cigarettes.
5. Avoid people who smokes.

This is what I remember from the book I've read.

I don't want to presume too much about your struggle. Without more information regarding what you have tried, I'll try anyway. Keep in mind that while I have never smoked, I do know a little about self-discipline. In the end, self-discipline is the issue.

Asking God to help in a bad habit is not an exercise of passively waiting on God to make it go away. While we should pray, we should also work in accountability, other activities, exercise, diet and other ways to help quit. There are books and medical help for addictions. I would suggest, Addiction, A Banquet in the Grave, by Edward T. Welch. It is available via Amazon.

Well Ill say this we all grew up hearing our parents and grandparents tell us "God Helps thoughs who help themselves" That is absolutly not true. God said himself cast your cares upon me for I care for you. However he also sometimes wants to really see how bad we want the things we are asking for if you'll read the story of Bartimaeus in Mark 10:46-52 Bartimaeus cried out several times to christ only to be denied over and over then the passage tells us he cried out a great more and jesus called for him. I believe it was his persitance in faith that healed him. Hope it helps Ill be praying for you, because i too am struggleing with smoking. I have been for about 2 years now.

God Bless
