This is to all you men out there who feel it necessary to use Scripture to get your wives and children to properly honor and obey you...and for the family who has to tolerate you. Yes, the Bible says the husband is the head of the wife. No argument, there, but how does the Bible define headship? It says husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her. So, the first responsibility of headship is to sacrifice yourself...your wants...your needs...your life...for your family. Headship isn't being first...it's being last...the servant of all. If that isn't enough, the Bible says the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the Church. Well, you can't get any more important than that! True, but Christ didn't get any of that until He gave His all, against His own will...made Himself less than a slave. It's instructive for us husbands to recognize how Jesus exercises His headship over the Church, so we will understand how we are to be the heads of our families. 1. Jesus listens endlessly to every word of every member of His Church. 2. Jesus provides for the needs and most of the wants of every member of His Church. 3. He never forces or pressures anyone to do anything. 4. He forgives their every wrong action and thought. 5. He intercedes for them to God, The Father. 6. He allows them to decide what they will do, how they will act, even when and how to acknowledge Him. 7. He never complains about how He is treated by His church. Yes, husbands, you are the head of your family...and now you know what that means.
