I've just heard that James Dobson is promoting the idea of running a Christian ticket for President. Well, more power to him, but I just don't see where the Bible tells us to use our influence to make or break political movements. I would think, if Jesus were looking for a religious government, Israel already filled the bill quite well. If that didn't satisfy Him, He had at least two good opportunities to set up His own while He was walking around on Earth. Instead, Jesus preached against the judgmental, bigoted religious leaders of His time, and chose, instead, to be a friend of sinners. This really isn't about politics, but about the choice we Christians have between living in judgment, as the Pharisees, or living in love, as Jesus. We can try to reach out to all those hurting, sick people in the World and offer them love. Or, we can use our time and money to pressure the government to force everyone to live by our rules...however we see them. One way leads to changed lives and people wanting to be close to God. The other way leads to judgment, divisiveness and resentment of God. I firmly believe, if we Christians want to change the World for God, it will be done through love and not politics. Then, even the politics will change.
