We continue our Christian Stewardship Bible study, with Scriptures on attitude, giving and receiving.  There are some surprises, here, from what is commonly taught.

Continued from Meaning Of Christian Stewardship

4. Christian Financial Planning:

a.  Saving:  Pr 21:20 "In the house of the wise are ______ of choice food and oil. But a _______ man devours all he has." Pr 13:11 "…he who _______ money little by little makes it ____." Mt 25:27 "…you should have put my money on _______…so that…I would have received it back with ________."

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it in your pocket. Will Rogers

Helpful hint: Want a 20 % raise? Pay cash for everything you buy! By saving for what you want, you earn interest on savings and eliminate interest payments, putting an extra 20 % in your pocket. Added benefit-many things you want now you won't want by the time you save for them.

b.  Investing: Read Mt 25:14-30 What did the "good and faithful" servants do with the master's money that the "wicked" one didn't do?________ __ Did this involve risk? ___ Why do you think the master rewarded those who put his money to work earning more and punished the one who didn't? ________________ Do you think God wants us to be "fruitful" with even the money He gives us?_____

Helpful hints: Never invest money you can't afford to lose. Keep plenty of cash in savings for a rainy day (or a stormy 6 months). Spread investments over many companies in different industries. Get lots of advice from different sources. Pr 15:22

5. Christian Attitude About Finances:

a. Love of money (too high): He 13:5 "Keep yourselves free from the ____ of money…" I Ti 6:10 "…the ____ of money is the root of all kinds of ____." Lk 12:15 "…guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not _______ in the abundance of his ___________." Mt 19:23-30"I tell you the truth, it is ____ for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven…" or-'you can't take it with you'.

b. Hate of money (too low): The Bible is full of examples where money is used to fulfill God's plan: Ex 3:22 "Every woman is to ___…for…silver and gold…and so, you will _______ the Egyptians." II Co 8:14 "…your ______ will supply what they ____…" Lk 10:33 "…he took out two silver coins£ and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said…"

c. Just right: Pr 3:9 "Honor the LORD with your ______…then your barns will be filled to overflowing…" Dt 8:18 "…remember the Lord your God, for it is he who _____ you the _______ to produce wealth." Mt 6:21 "Where your ________ is, there your heart will be also." I Co 11:12 "__________ comes from God."

Our attitude about money is important to God. The right attitude neither loves it nor hates it, but understands it's just a thing. If we Honor Him with our money, we have the right attitude.

6. Christian Giving and receiving:

The reason God teaches us to give is so we can receive His blessings, both financially, and in other ways. He doesn't need our money. In giving, as in praying, we get an opportunity to participate in His generosity. If we see giving as a law we must obey, we miss the point. II Co 9:7 "Each man should give what he has _______ in his heart to give, not ___________ or under __________, for God _____ a cheerful giver." In this section, we'll cover the Biblical guidance for giving; What to give. How to give. Where to give. Sowing and reaping. Pay attention! There will be surprises, here.

a. What to give: Many teach that tithing (giving 10%) is required for Christians, required for ministers or a sign of Spiritual maturity. This is not true! Ro 6:14 "…you are not _____ law…" The only three mentions of tithe in the New Testament (Mt 23:23, Lk 11:42, He 7:8) refer to what is done in Judaism, not Christianity. So, what is our guideline for how much to give? (1) As much as you can afford: I Co 16:2 "each of you should set aside a ___ of money in keeping with his ______…" II Co 8:12 "…the gift is acceptable _________ to what one has…" Mk 12:41-44 "…They all gave out of their ______; but she…put in __________…" I Ti 6:17-18 "Command those who are ____…to be ________and willing to share." (2) As much as is needed: Acts 4:34-35 "There were no _____ persons among them…those who owned lands or houses ____ them and…money…was distributed…" (3) Giving 10% promises special reward from God: Mal 3: 10 "Bring the whole _____ into the storehouse…I will…pour out so much ________ that you will not have room enough for it."
