We conclude our Christian Stewardship Bible study with Scriptures on attitude, giving and receiving. There are some surprises, here, from what is commonly taught.

Continued from Christian Stewardship-2

b. How to give: (1) Willingly: II Co 9:5 "I want it to be a _______ gift, not one given under ________." (2) Cheerfully: II Co 9:7 (3) Generously: Pr 11:25 "A generous man will _______; he who refreshes others will _______ be refreshed." (4) Privately: Mt 6:1-4 (5) First, before anything else in your budget: Pr 3:9  "Honor the Lord by giving Him the _____ part of all your ______."

c. Where to give: Just as we covered in 'Investing' above, God wants the money He gives us to be profitable, or fruitful. In Mt 25:14-30, Jesus places the responsibility on us to give in ways that further His purposes. We shouldn't just hand money over to a charity or church-we need to know what they do with it. It's better not to give where we see waste, secrecy, or too much priority on non-Godly matters. Here are the Biblical examples of where to give:

Guests, widows & orphans: Dt 26:12 …to feed the "Levite, the ______, the __________ and the ______…"

Needy: Mt 6:3 "When you ____ to the needy…"/Ac 2:45 "…they gave to ______ as he had need." Be careful with this one. Many have been taken advantage of. If the person you want to help is a stranger, it's better to give food & clothes etc. rather than money. Gifts of money harm people with alcohol, drug, gambling and spending addictions. If you know the person, make sure money is the solution. Sometimes help finding more work or controlling spending is the answer.

Servants of God or ministers: Mt 10:10 "…the ______ is worth his ____." I Ti 5:18 "The worker ________ his wages." I Co 9:7-12 "…If we have sown _________ seed among you, is it too much if we reap a ________ reward…"

Evangelistic Ministry: Php 4:14-19 vs 16-"…when I was in ___________, you ____ me aid again and again…"

Just to bless someone: Ec 11:1 "Cast your _____ upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again. ____ portions to seven, yes to eight" Pr 11:25-Be generous and bless people

d. Sowing and Reaping: Many teach that giving is a "law" we must obey or a "responsibility" we have to God to further His kingdom. We can ignore them because the Bible doesn't teach that kind of giving for Christians. Instead, as we've learned in this session, God wants to bless us beyond what we can possibly give. The Lord makes promises throughout His Word about the blessings (financial and otherwise) He lavishes on us if we would just be generous with what He's already given us. Here are a few examples: II Co 9:6 "a farmer who plants only a ___ seeds will get a _____ crop. But the one who plants generously will get a ________ crop."/ Pr 3:9-10 "Honor the Lord with your wealth…then your _____ will be filled to ___________…"/ II Co 9:11 "You will be made rich in _____ way so that you can be generous on _____ occasion…"/ Lk 6:38 "Give, and it will be _____ to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be ______ into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." The Lord's Word couldn't be clearer. He will bless us immeasurably if we just have the faith to honor Him with our money!

I want to let you know we're available to help you make the changes necessary to bring your life more in line with God's financial plan. I have experience in budgeting and debt-reduction from the Lord's leading in my own life. He took us from spending $ 250 more per month than we had coming in, to being debt-free in 8 years.
