6. All we have to do is believe in Jesus
to be forgiven of all our wrongs and to spend eternity with God…or…we
can choose not to.
a. Jn 3:16 "For God so
_____ the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever ________ in him
shall not ______ but have _______ life."
b. I Ti 1:16 "…I was shown mercy so that
in me, the _____ of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited ________
as an example for those who would _______ on him and _______ eternal life."
7. If we accept His gift, He lives in us,
empowering us to live, love and help others know Him.
a. Ga 2:20 "I have been _________ with
Christ and I no longer ____, but Christ _____ in __. The life I live in the
body, I ____ by _____ in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for
me."
b. I Jn 4:7 "Dear friends, let us ____ one
another, for love comes from ___. Everyone who loves has been ____ of God and
_____ God."
c. Mt 28:18-20 "All
_________ in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore
go and ____ _________ of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you
______, to the very ___ of the age."
I can't emphasize enough just how important these seven beliefs are to our Spiritual life. Let's take # 2, for instance. If we didn't believe the bible was God's Word for us, why read it? Why believe in God? Why believe in Jesus? Why believe there is 'right' behavior? All of these things stem from a belief in the Bible. If we don't believe in creation (# 3), then God has no say as to our behavior, there was no disobedience and no need for reconnection. There would have been no Savior because no one would need saving if God didn't create us. If we believed it took more than faith to be connected with God, Paul says we would set aside God's grace (Ga 2:21). Each is so important, it's as if, when we deny one, we deny all 7.
They all work together to provide us with a foundation for our Spiritual growth. Once we know the Bible is God's Word, we see the importance of studying it and following it. We also see the way to interpret it…by understanding that God, and His Word, doesn't make mistakes. What it says, it means. As we move on to the next sessions and begin applying the Word of God to our lives, it's good for us to know He isn't kidding.
Memory verse: He 4:12 "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
Conclusions from the seven Essentials:
a. Everyone who has accepted God's gift (7) is
God's child and part of our family, regardless of denomination, church
affiliation (or none), race, nation or gender.
b. Everyone who has not accepted God's gift is
still loved by God (2,3,5), and therefore, loved by God's children. God's
children are like Him in the world.
c. Differences in interpreting God's Word in
non-essentials is an opportunity for acceptance, learning and growth, not
conflict and dissention.
"In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, charity." Augustine
